The centre of this steeply sloping site had been carved out of the rock terrain by a previous owner.

Rather than simply filling the hole, we opted to create a dramatic tower linked by a walkway to the road above.

The living area and cantilevered deck is located on the uppermost floor with bedrooms on the middle floor and a painting studio below.

The house faces away from the road and is subtely turned to catch the afternoon sun while enjoying panoramic views over the Minho valley.
